About Cannon Christian Academy

Who We Are and What We Value

Introduction

Thank you for investigating Canon Christian Academy (CCA). We understand that selecting a private school to meet the needs of your family is an important one. The mission, vision and philosophy of any school you consider should be a clear extension of your own personal beliefs and values. As a ministry of Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley (CCRGV), we uphold and teach the doctrines of the Bible, and seek to assist parents in their God-given responsibility to educate their children.

We hope this site will answer your questions; however, if there is anything else you would like to know please feel free to contact me directly at 505-459-0912.

Our Distinctives

Canon Christian Academy is a unique and special learning environment that can be marked by three key distinctive, these are:

  • Christ Centered. The primary difference between CCA and other learning institutions is God! We are convicted that a Christ centered academic approach makes math purposeful, history accurate, science true, and literature meaningful.
  • Superior Academics. At CCA we strive to go beyond imparting and retrieving knowledge to developing the critical and analytical skills necessary to excel academically.
  • Student Discipleship. Discipleship addresses the whole student. Jesus explained the most important commandment is to love God with all your heart (emotion), soul (spirit), mind (intellect), and strength (character). We are focused on raising adults who are emotionally secure, spiritually mature, intellectually equipped, and strong in character.

Our Misson

The mission of CCA has been given by Christ Himself. Known as the “Great Commission”, Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, [even] to the end of the age.” (Matt. 28:19-20)

Our Vision

To raise Disciples of Jesus who are:

  • Spiritually mature,
  • Intellectually equipped,
  • Emotionally secure, and
  • Strong in Character.

Our Objectives

To fulfill our vision and mission CCA will pursue the following objectives for our students.

(Soul) To raise spiritually mature disciples of Jesus we will:
Impart the truth that Jesus Christ is the center of all things. Teach the Bible clearly and accurately. Train students to apply Biblical truths to their daily lives. Develop in the students a trust in God instead of a dependence upon their own strength. Lead our students in a saving relationship with the living God.

(Mind) To raise intellectually equipped disciples of Jesus we will:
Promote academics through the use of excellent curriculum and well qualified teachers. Equip the student with language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) to support life-long learning and pursuit of their calling. Provide the student with math skills necessary for life application of math. Train the student to think critically, creatively, and constructively. Teach the student accurate history from a providential perspective. Develop a strong grasp of the sciences based on facts and the scientific method. Engender an appreciation of the arts while equipping the student to evaluate the meaning of the arts. Encourage the development of logic, analytical thought, and problem solving.

(Heart) To raise emotionally secure disciples of Jesus we will:
Teach students to respect and protect all human life. Train students to develop and maintain healthy relationships. Promote a Biblical view of work, recreation, time, and material possessions. Develop responsible citizenship and encourage active participation in their community. Encourage students to develop a healthy Biblical concept of identity and self. Provide students with the purpose, love, joy, hope and truth found in Jesus Christ.

(Strength) To raise strong disciples of Jesus we will:
Teach respect for the human body as the temple of the Holy Spirit. Develop gross and fine motor skills. Teach healthy dietary habits. Train in proper hygiene and first aid. Promote physical fitness and health.
