  Frequently Asked Questions

n Why  do you only offer grades K4 through 6th?
As the church pastoral staff prayed regarding God's desire for us to do a school, two things became evident.  It had to be God's will for us and we needed to do it right.  After much prayer and having the opportunity to visit other schools, it became apparent that it would be best for the church and the community to start small and grow into the school.

n Will you be adding additional grades?
YES!  Each year we plan on adding an additional grade.  For the 2007-2008 school year we began with grades K4 through 4th.  For the 2008-2009 school year we will go up to 6th grade, and continue to add an additional grade level each year thereafter.

n What makes CCA different from other schools?
Calvary Christian Academy is a Christ-centered, nondenominational academy.   Our vision is to unleash each student’s God-given talents through Christ-centered academic excellence.  We are devoted to developing the whole person and instilling a lifelong passion for learning, leading and serving.

n Are you accredited?
Not yet.  This will be our second year as a school.  From the time a school is open, it takes 3 years to earn accreditation.  We have plans to get accredited through the
Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).   By the time we begin offering Middle School and High School age classes, we hope to receive our accreditation.

n What curriculum are you using?
Our teaching materials come from A Beka Book, a well-regarded publisher, which has been developing and refining curriculum for use in Christian schools for 50 years.  To download a complete overview of the curriculum, click here.

n What is the average class size?
The average class size will range from 18-20 students in a class.

n  What type of student are you looking for?
We look for students who are motivated to pursue higher education, to grow in a personal faith in Jesus Christ and to serve the Lord, their families, and their communities.

n  Are parents welcome to be involved at CCA?
As we step out in faith on this huge endeavor, we know that that parent volunteers will be essential in the operation of the school.  We pray that parents can become involved in all aspects of CCA.

n  Do CCA students wear a uniform?
We have a 'Standard of Dress" for our students to wear.   The standard of dress consists of navy or khaki pants/skirt/skort/shorts and polo shirts in either short or long sleeve.
A standard of dress helps students to focus on Christ by eliminating undue focus on clothing and designer labels and a preoccupation with outward appearance. We want to be imitators of God by focusing on the heart.

n  What transportation options are available?
CCA is unable to provide transportation to and from the school.   We understand that many parents are interested in carpooling, so we will be creating a 'Parent Information Board" where parents can post their contact information.  CCA  does not have the staffing to maintain this board.

n  Do you offer child care before and/or after school?
Not at this time. But this is something we are praying about.

n  How are admissions decisions made?
Each student’s file is reviewed by the Admission Committee.   The admissions committee of CCA carefully and prayerfully weighs each application for enrollment based on the following criteria:

  • Affirmation of and compliance with the biblical standards or morality and ethics as taught and upheld by Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley and Calvary Chapel Academy

  • Willingness and desire to follow Jesus Christ

  • Regular involvement in a Bible-teaching church

  • Student’s grades, standardized tests, and conduct

  • Interview(s) with parents/guardians

  • CCA assessment results

  • Parent/Guardian commitment to uphold all school policies and procedures

  • Student’s desire to attend CCA
